Microchipping

Microchipping is a permanent means of identification and proof of ownership for dogs, cats, and other animals. The chip (an RFID chip about the size of a grain of rice) is injected beneath the skin between the shoulders, and will remain there for the rest of your pet's life. If your dog or cat is picked up and taken to a shelter or veterinarian, they will be scanned for a microchip by passing a reader over their shoulders. When the reader picks up the microchip's location, the shelter or vet is presented with your pet's unique identification number. This number allows us to obtain the contact information necessary to reunite you and your pet quickly and easily. We have several microchip success stories at our hospital every year.

At Northwest Veterinary Hospital, we can implant a microchip during a scheduled exam or surgery if desired. We even file the registration paperwork for you! Remember- a collar and tag is still helpful and recommended, but a microchip can never be lost or broken.
